Staff Profile

Dr. Ram Hashmonay

Dr. Ram Hashmonay has developed a patented technique that can be used to provide real-time on-site information on emissions of fugitive gases from many different types of area sources. Optical Remote Sensing-Radial Plume Mapping (ORS-RPM) is a technique that can be applied to a variety of different area sources including agricultural operations, industrial facilities and landfills and the technique is currently under peer-review to become an approved EPA method. Additionally, the ORS-RPM and other innovative techniques developed by the ORS group can be used in the area of Homeland Security to assess exposure to chemical and biological agents.

Dr. Hashmonay is a principal scientist at ARCADIS and is the leader of ARCADIS’ ORS Group. He is also the Chair of the Optical Sensing Division at the Air & Waste Management Association.

Dr. Robert Kagann is responsible for the spectral identification algorithms. Dr. Ravi Varma is the developer of software packages’ real-time user interfaces and Mark Modrak is the field manager leading many projects concurrently. Other significant group members include: Eric Morris, Tom Balicki, Rich Snody, Michal Derlicki and Kim Egler. The group is currently measure air emissions for EPA from landfills, concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO), mobile sources, gas stations, and elemental mercury from chloro-alkali industry. Also the group is collaborating on several DoD projects to characterize fugitive dust emission factors from military training activities and emission factors from various military aircrafts.
